“When we started this program, Dr. Benjamin Luft and I shared the view that that success would require a core value system offering the highest quality of medical care, geographic accessibility, and a welcoming community for our patients. On its opening day in 2001, the Program had but seven employees and shared limited office space with another institution. As of 2015, we track more than 8,000 WTC responder patients, manage two clinical locations, and employ more than 60 highly skilled and caring employees!”

—Melodie Guerrera, Administrative Director

The LI-CCE is solely dedicated to the healthcare of the 9/11 responders who we serve--they are at the center of our community. Our patient-centered care model informs the work of every staff member at our Center. While our patients interact with our doctors, nurses and nurse practitioners, social workers, and dedicated patient advocates, behind the scenes our clinical location thrums with activity, with staff who ensure our efficiency and quality by: scheduling appointments; facilitating pharmacy orders and authorizations for procedures; approving and processing claims; managing clinical research data; coordinating and expanding our provider network; and more. This is just the tip of the Stony Brook WTC Wellness / LI-CCE iceberg.

Our member patients not only return for medical monitoring year after year, but they attend our events, recommend our services, participate in our studies, and join in our preservation efforts. With each passing year, the evidence of our success is found in the thousands of 9/11 responders who consider us an extension of their families. It is incredibly meaningful to know that despite the tragic legacy of 9/11, we can provide a place of health and healing.
